Prayer Changes Everything

Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.

There was a time in my life when I only prayed when things were going wrong.

You know that kind of prayer? “God, please come through for me, I beg you.” I would only remember to pray when I was in trouble or when I needed something urgently. When things were okay, I would just carry on with life like I had everything under control. Deep down, I knew that wasn’t the way it should be. Especially as a Christian.

Then life happened.

One situation after another. No warning. No breathing space. It felt like everything was falling apart at the same time. I became tired, confused, and completely overwhelmed. That was when I went back to prayer but this time, differently.

I didn’t come to God only because I wanted Him to do something. I came because I am thankful for his boundless love and also building a relationship with him to foster a deeper connection to his daily presence in my life.

And that was the beginning of something new for me.

I started praying about everything. This is one of the best decisions of my life. I pray not just for the big things, not just in moments of crisis, but even in the small everyday matters. Before stepping out, I would pray. When I felt anxious, I would pray. Even when I was doing chores or sitting quietly, I would just talk to God.

Not formal.

Not perfect.

Just honest.

I also started to speak positively about myself, my situation, and my future. Even when I didn’t feel it yet, I would say, “It is well.” I would speak life over my day and over my plans. And slowly, things began to change.

Opportunities started coming. My heart became lighter. I had more clarity. I found peace in the middle of situations I used to panic about. I saw how powerful it is to carry everything no matter how small to God in prayer.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 ESV:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This scripture came alive in my life.

So if you’re reading this and you feel stuck, tired, or even far from God, I want to encourage you to start praying about everything. Talk to God like a father, a friend or a helper. Not just when you’re in need, but at all times. Let it be a daily practice. And while you’re at it;

Speak life.

Speak hope.

Speak God’s Word over your situation.

One thing I’ve learned for sure is “when you start praying about everything, everything really start changing for good.”
