I love Valentine’s Day and everything it represents but it has become one of those dates that comes with expectation.
Restaurants are booked. Deliveries are delayed. Social media is suddenly very red.
And yet, beyond the performance of it, there’s something worth pausing for.
It feels good to love and to be loved.
That’s the part I don’t want to skip.
Flowers are thoughtful. They signal effort. They brighten a room for a few days. But if we’re honest, flowers are not the foundation of love. They’re just the announcement. The foundation is usually much deeper.
It’s the person who checks your mood without making a big deal about it. The one who supports your ideas even when they don’t fully understand them yet. The friend who listens without turning the conversation back to themselves. The colleague who makes work easier simply by being steady.
Love shows up in consistency more than in spectacle. This applies beyond romantic relationships. We often reduce Valentine’s Day to couples, but love exists in many forms like friendships that have survived distance, family members who have stayed supportive through your different seasons, mentors who opened doors without needing recognition.
Even self-respect belongs here. The kind that keeps you making better decisions. The kind that chooses growth over ego.
Each day, I gain a deeper appreciation for the significance of both giving and receiving love, particularly through the simple yet profound reassurance of being remembered, valued, and supported. That feeling doesn’t depend on a bouquet. It depends on presence.
So yes, enjoy the flowers if they come. Appreciate the gestures. Celebrate the romance but also acknowledge the deeper things.
The steady presence.
The emotional safety.
The people who give you joy without needing a holiday to do so.
If Valentine’s Day does anything, maybe it simply reminds us to be more intentional with gratitude.
Love is bigger than a bouquet. And in many cases, it’s already around us consistent and reliable. We just need to notice them more.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!❤️
