Recently, I shared some thoughts on revamping your wardrobe each season without starting from scratch. But it got me thinking. What about those of us still trying to figure out what our style even is? That signature look that feels like you?

If that sounds familiar, this post is just for you.
Let’s dive in and figure it out together.

We’ve all had that moment, standing in front of a closet full of clothes, feeling completely overwhelmed, and whispering (or shouting), “I have nothing to wear.
Even when our wardrobe is practically spilling over!

You scroll through Pinterest. You save endless outfit inspo. You try a few trends, feel cute for a minute and then, it suddenly feels like you’re playing dress-up in someone else’s clothes. Again.

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone.
Finding your signature look isn’t about copying what’s trending. It’s about uncovering what’s already working for you and building from there.

Here’s how I did mine. A step by step method with no fashion degree required.

1. Audit Your Closet

This isn’t about throwing everything out and starting a fresh. It’s about paying attention.

Take your current wardrobe and sort it into three piles:

  • YES, I feel like myself in this.
  • MAYBE, but I rarely wear it.
  • NO, it stresses me out or itches or just feels wrong.

Now look at the “YES” pile. What do these pieces have in common?

Is it the color?

The fabric?

The fit?

Are they soft and flowy?

Tailored and sharp?

Playful?

Earth-toned?

Loud?

Minimal?

This is your first clue. Your signature look is already whispering. It’s just been buried under your pile of clothes.

2. Think Less About Fashion, More About Feelings

Forget the runway for a second.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I wear on days I feel the most me?
  • What outfits do I wear when I want to feel powerful, calm, creative or grounded?
  • What feels right in my body and not just how it looks good in the mirror?

Your signature style should support you, not perform for others.
It should feel like your favorite playlist on a good day; effortless but very familiar.

3. Define Your “Style Words”

Choose about 3–5 words for the style that you want to reflect without overwhelming yourself. Simple words like;

Clean. Feminine. Grounded.

Bold. Sporty. Effortless.

Artistic. Earthy. Relaxed.

That’s your vibe. These words will help you to navigate how to dress up and shop for the clothes you like.

4. Build an Outfit Formula That Works

Most people with “great style” aren’t reinventing the wheel. They’ve simply found what works and repeat it with variations.

Your formula could be:

  • Cropped trousers + oversized shirt + mules
  • Maxi dress + denim jacket + sneakers
  • Monochrome layering + bold earrings

Start by building 3 go-to looks you love.

Take photos.

Save them.

Return to them when you’re stuck.

This becomes your “style blueprint”.

5. Edit Slowly, Shop Intentionally

Now that you’re getting clearer, resist the urge to start over.
Your signature look evolves while it doesn’t erupt.

When you need to shop, ask:

  • Does this piece reflect my 3–5 style words?
  • Can I wear this 3 different ways with what I already own?
  • Do I feel at home in it?

Your wardrobe should feel like a toolbox, not a costume trunk.

6. Let It Evolve (Because You Will, Too)

Here’s the truth no one tells you:
Your signature style will shift as you do. And that’s okay.

What felt “right” in your 20s might not serve you in your 30s.
Life seasons change. Comfort levels change. Confidence deepens.

Give yourself the permission to grow into your next version and let your style follow.

Your signature look isn’t about impressing anyone.
It’s about dressing like you already like yourself.

It doesn’t have to be flashy, complicated, or expensive.
It just has to feel like home on your skin.

So if you’re still searching, start where you are.
Your favorite sweater. Your go-to jeans. That pair of earrings that always gets compliments.

They are not “just clothes.”
That’s your style, waiting to be claimed.

Try This Today:

“Why do I love this?”
